While the number of COVID 19 Pakistan cases continues to decline, health officials reported that another strain of the deadly virus had made its way into the country. The Japanese government, on the other hand, donated $6.59 million in equipment to Islamabad. It was done through the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) to help the country improve its Covid-19 vaccine storage capacity.
In the meantime, in a single day, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) reported 554 new cases and 12 fatalities. The last time there were fewer than 554 cases was on October 18, 2020, when 440 patients were recorded. The nationwide positive ratio remained at 1.31 percent, with 1,783 patients in critical condition, according to the data.
Dr. Javed Akram, a member of the Covid-19 Scientific Task Force, stated a virulent version of Covid-19 known as 'Epsilon' has been discovered. "This variant originated in California, which is why it's known as the California strain of B.1.429," Dr. Akram explained, noting that it then spread to the United Kingdom and other European countries.
Dr. Akram, who is also the vice-chancellor of the University of Health Sciences, stated that genetic analysis had proven the presence of the strain in roughly 40 individuals in Pakistan. But that figure was not precise. The good news, according to Dr. Akram, is that all Epsilon vaccines are effective, so individuals should be immunized and follow regular operating protocols.
Tokyo has offered Islamabad a total of $23.5 million in grant funding to help with its anti-Covid-19 efforts, which include hygienic supplies, medical equipment, and healthcare personnel training.
